Why do we make art?.
Is it a way of collecting a sense of place? and telling a story?
Is it to capture and immortalize moments in time?, like a portrait.
Is it a primal instinct to communicate and/or express ones inner feelings?
Is it a way of needing to understand our underlying human condition and journey in life?
When we create, do we subconsciously seek to understand our true nature? - knowing the process can cause pleasure and pain!, or maybe, like a child, its the pure visceral enjoyment of creating and playing, nothing else.
Life and places experienced, are natural influences in my Art, but perhaps more importantly, dreams, memory and the mystery of spirit & imagination.
Patterns in Nature, Astronomy, the stars and sky are a large influence my work. The seasons, creatures, stories, myths and legends, inspire me to paint and draw. Artwork I create can sometimes be inspired by the ‘experience’ of the way light affects and distorts the atmosphere, environment and more importantly, our perception of what & how we see a moment in time.
Most of my paintings are in oil and/or acrylic paint and mixed media - painted on canvas and sometimes wood, always finished to a high standard for display.
I studied Art & Design and History of Art in late 70's/early 80's. I worked as a hand bench silk screen printer, a sign writer, a ‘graphic designer’ and Illustrator. Then a diversion to the drawing board and CAD Engineering for a living. Over the years, London, Brighton, Sussex, Chester, Aberdeen Scotland have been my home. My journey has now bought me to Norfolk, where I live with my husband and cat, and of course, continue to create Art.
